Wild Things back in first
Ryan Cox and Roman Collins each drove in a run in the top of the 12th inning to give the Washington Wild Things a 3-1 victory over Joliet in a battle of first-place Frontier League teams Wednesday night.
Washington now holds a one-game lead over Joliet and is on a three-game winning streak.
Three Washington relievers allowed only one run over the final four innings. Reliever Zach Strecker got the win, pitching 2 1/3 innings.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when James Harris cracked a two-out solo home run, his 13th of the season.
Joliet answered in the bottom of the sixth when Ridge Hoopi-Haslam hit a one-out single and went to second on an error from a ground ball by Justin Garcia. One out later, Trenton Hill drove in Hoopi-Haslam with a single.
Joliet starter Taylor Goshen went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run. Nick Antone pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings.
Washington’s Thomas Dorminy pitched eight innings of one-run ball and struck out eight.
