Reydel Medina hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to spark a four-run fourth inning as the Washington Wild Things held off a late rally to defeat Traverse City, 7-6, in the series finale Thursday night.

Washington nearly blew its 7-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning when the Beach Bums scored four runs and had the tying run at third base before flying out to end the game.

The Wild Things extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth when Roman Collins scored on a fielder’s choice and Kyle Pollock hit a run-scoring single.

Traverse City was trailing from the start as Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Hector Roa to score James Harris. In the second, Pollock singled home Medina and Collins hit another sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-0.

The Beach Bums narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple from Alexis Rivera and a run-scoring groundout to made it 7-2.

Washington starter Michael Austin (2-2) earned the win. He allowed only two runs on six hits and struck out six.
