CRESTWOOD Ill. – Blake Adams was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, and three Washington pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Wild Things defeated the Windy City ThunderBolts 6-4 Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep.
Washington has won seven of its last eight games and six consecutive road contests.
Adams led off the game by hitting the third pitch from Windy City starter Chris Washington for a home run, his fifth of the season. He also led off the third inning with a triple and scored when Shaine Hughes doubled. Hughes made it 3-0 when he scored on a single by Hector Roa.
Windy City tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the third against Washington starter A.J. Bogucki (1-1), who gave up three hits and three walks over five innings. Bogucki struck out six.
Washington took the lead for good in the top of the fourth on a RBI groundout by Hughes. Brett Marr had run-scoring hits in the fifth and seventh innings to push the lead to 6-3.
Jesus Balaguer followed Bogucki on the mound and threw three innings, allowing only one hit, a solo homer by Tyler Alamo.
Zack Strecker got the final three outs for his sixth save.
