California vs. Union

Records: California is 11-0, Union is 8-3.

Class A

Winner plays: Either fourth-seeded Imani Christian or fifth-seeded OLSH.

What to watch: California’s balanced attack continues to overwhelm opponents as its first-round game against Bishop Canevin ended in a 51-7 rout. The Trojans have six players averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Five have at least seven touchdowns, including Jelani Stafford’s team-high 25. No one has been able to stop Stafford, who has 1,444 yards. Ninth-seeded Union soared through the first half of its season with dominating wins over Laurel and Sto-Rox, both playoff teams. The Trojans defense will be tasked with stopping Tre’von Charles, who plays running back and receiver for the Scotties. This is the first time Union has made the second round of the WPIAL playoffs since 2012. The Scotties advanced to the second round after defeating another Tri-County South Conference team, Fort Cherry, in the opening round last Friday.
