High school softball roundup: West Greene notches 14th victory

Winning pitcher Jade Renner went 3-for-3, hit two doubles, drove in five runs and only surrendered one hit in the circle as West Greene defeated Avella in three innings, 17-0, in a Section 2-A game Friday.

McKenna Lampe hit an inside-the-park grand slam and Madison Lampe had two hits, two RBI and scored three times to spark the rest of the lineup for West Greene (10-1, 14-3). Kaitlyn Rizor, Linzee Stover and Madison Renner also had a pair of hits for the Pioneers.

Mckena Cowden had the lone hit for Avella (2-9, 3-11).

• Bailey Shimek hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Waynesburg a thrilling, 7-6 victory over McGuffey in a Section 3-AAA game Thursday.

The win assures Waynesburg (6-3, 8-7) of third place in the section. Top four make the playoffs.

Sydney Hare opened the inning with a double and Shimek followed with the home run. McGuffey took a 6-5 lead on two Waynesburg errors in the top of the seventh.

Hare, Paige Rutan, Rachel Elsenheimer and Brook Coss each had a double for Waynesburg.

• Waynesburg scored 13 runs in the first inning and crusied to a 14-2 victory over host Brownsville in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game Friday.

Sydney Hare went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI to lead Waynesburg (7-3, 9-7) to its third consecutive victory. Hare was one of three Raiders with two outs in the big first inning. The others were winning pitcher Jordan Sibert and Bailee Shimek. Erin Fitch had a triple and Rachel Elsenheimer doubled for the Raiders.

Losing pitcher Payton Hall had two of the four hits by Brownsville (1-9, 3-12).
