For the second time in as many softball playoff games, Bailey Parshall was unhittable.
Parshall did not allow a hit, struck out 18 and did not walk a batter during Belle Vernon’s 1-0 victory over Mount Pleasant in the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals at Baldwin High School Wednesday.
Belle Vernon, now 20-3, advances to the finals against Elizabeth Forward either Wednesday or Thursday at Seton Hill University in Greensburg.
Parshall, who raised her record to 18-3, no-hit Ambridge in Monday’s quarterfinals, also played at Baldwin, a 3-0 win for the Leopards. She struck out 16 and walked one.
Belle Vernon had only three hits against Mount Pleasant and one of them was an RBI single by Jordan French in the top of the seventh inning. French singled earlier in the game and Sophia Godzak had the third.
Carolyn Alincic was the tough-luck loser for the Vikings, striking out 12 and walking five. Mount Pleasant fell to 16-3.
Laurel 9, Chartiers-Houston 5: Chartiers-Houston fell behind early, giving up six runs in the first inning, and couldn’t recover, falling to Laurel, 9-5, in a WPIAL Class AA semifinal game at West Allegheny.
Chartiers-Houston will finish either third or fourth depending on Laurel’s outcome against Frazier in the finals, which will be played either Wednesday or Thursday at Seton Hill University in Greensburg.
Mackenzie Latess hit a two-run home run, and Morgan Patterson and Alyssa Miller each added run-scoring doubles for Laurel.
Kasey Scear and Kaci Alderson each hit solo home runs for the Bucs, Scears in the first inning and Alderson in the seventh.
Madyson Boyd allowed six hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out 10 for Laurel. Kaitlyn Dittrich took the loss for Chartiers-Houston, surrendering six runs on six hits over two-thirds of an inning. She struck out two and walked one.
