WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman has been arrested on a prostitution charge after allegedly accepting cash in exchange for sex during a sting operation with an undercover police officer.

Waynesburg Borough police Officer Thomas Ankrom said he met with a woman who wanted to remain anonymous at the station Friday because she suspected her boyfriend was cheating on her after she found messages on his phone with a person asking about having sex for money.

The woman said she purchased a cellphone and began messaging Billie Jo Hodgson in an attempt to figure out with whom her boyfriend was communicating. Hodgson told her where she lived and sent photographs of herself, Ankrom said. The woman turned the phone “over to police so the suspected prostitution could be investigated,” court documents indicate.

Ankrom then continued to message Hodgson to set up a meeting for shortly after noon Monday. A vacant apartment on South Church Street was secured and Hodgson agreed to meet the “client” in front of a West High Street store and walk back to the apartment, police said. After they arrived, Hodgson accepted money in exchange for sexual favors, according to court documents.

Once the cash was exchanged, a plainclothes officer signaled to police nearby. Two borough police officers entered the bedroom, at which point Hodgson began to cry and said she had not done anything wrong. Once taken into custody at the police station, she admitted she planned to have sex with the undercover officer for money.

Hodgson, 35, remains in the Greene County jail on $2,500 cash bond while awaiting a June 29 preliminary hearing before District Judge David Balint.
