A Washington man was jailed Monday night after he allegedly fought two Washington police officers at a CVS store he was attempting to rob.

Employees of the CVS store at 175 W. Beau St. called police about 10 p.m. Monday to report that a man was behind the pharmacy counter and refusing to leave.

When Washington police arrived, they said Hoszjai Gaston, 20, was in the pharmacy holding a bank bag, and the employees had fled to the front of the store.

Police said when they ordered Gaston to the ground, he went to his knees and put his hands behind his back. When the officer attempted to handcuff Gaston, he allegedly punched the officer several times in the head and attempted to kick and punch a second officer.

When a third officer arrived, they were able to handcuff Gaston, but a Taser was broken during their struggle, police said. Gaston also allegedly kicked the police car door, damaging it to the point that it would no longer close.

The first two officers needed medical treatment at Washington Hospital. Gaston also allegedly threatened to rape and kill the officers and their families, the criminal complaint said.

Police said they found a prescription bottle of clonazepam in the bank bag, which Gaston had allegedly stolen from the pharmacy.

Gaston was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of robbery, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He also was charged with five counts of terroristic threats. Gaston was arraigned Tuesday morning by District Judge Ethan Ward and jailed on $50,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Jan 7 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
