A member of the state police vice unit has charged a Huntingdon man with drug and gun violations after a 2016 incident at a Canton Township motel. The man also was accused of selling heroin to confidential informants on two separate occasions.

William Edward Shaw, 47, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge David Mark on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin, cocaine and marijuana, person not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of paraphernalia.

State police were called March 3, 2016, to America’s Best Motel, 1386 W. Chestnut St., for a report of a domestic dispute involving a gun. A 25-year-old New Jersey woman allegedly was assaulted by Shaw.

While at the scene investigating, a trooper reported seeing bags of suspected heroin and a bag containing baking soda, which police said is used as a cutting agent for cocaine.

The woman told police Shaw assaulted her. He was arrested on charges including aggravated and simple assault.

Police said they learned Shaw had a large amount of heroin and cocaine in his car. Troopers obtained search warrants for two rooms at the motel, where they said they found cocaine, heroin and a Taurus revolver.

The drug and weapons charges were filed against Shaw Wednesday.

Shaw also was arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin for allegedly selling the drug to a confidential informant in December 2015 on North Wade Avenue in East Washington and in January 2016 to an informant near Jefferson Avenue and Third Street in Washington.

Mark set bond at $75,000 on Shaw, who has been in Washington County jail since Aug. 20.
