A convenience store on West Chestnut Street in North Franklin Township was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday.

The clerk at the 7-Eleven at the BP station, 1360 W. Chestnut St., told township police three men wearing bandanas over their faces entered the store about 12:30 a.m.

A man wearing a blue bandana pointed a black-and-silver pistol at the clerk and demanded money.

The clerk told police the robber was a thin, black man with facial hair dressed all in black with black gloves. He stole an undetermined amount of cash from the register.

A second man, who may have been wearing a red bandana, walked behind the counter and stole several packs of Newport Gold cigarettes.

The three then fled on foot, running behind the store.

A Washington police officer was first to arrive on the scene, but did not see the suspects. He went to the Days Inn, 1370 W. Chestnut St., behind the store to check for the suspects.

All of the officers searched until they were able to review surveillance footage from a camera at the hotel and determined the men got into a black car that was parked behind the convenience store. The car is seen on surveillance driving west toward a neighboring business. The three men never entered the hotel, police said.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the vehicle is asked to call township police at 724-228-9610.
