MONONGAHELA – A Monongahela man is accused of fabricating the cause of severe lacerations he suffered Sunday.

Monongahela police have charged James Matthew Large, 25, of 1319 Corrin Ave., with making false reports to police, obstruction, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and public drunkenness, court records show.

Police were called to Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township about 1:15 a.m. Sunday to investigate Large’s claims he was jumped by as many as six men and stabbed in the right arm and hand, the affidavit indicates. He also said the assault took place outside Jim’s Bar at 163 W. Main St. in Monongahela.

Large was mumbling and incoherent at times and didn’t appear to have suffered any other injuries, police stated in the record.

The hospital’s emergency room physician had Large flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center due to the extent of his injuries.

The investigating officer then went to the bar, where he was told a much different story about how Large suffered his injuries.

The bartender told police she and another woman escorted Large out the door after he became obnoxious, the record indicates.

The bartender also claimed Large cut himself while punching out a large window on the bar’s facade.

Police filed the charges against Large Tuesday before District Judge Mark Wilson. Large is in Washington County jail on a probation violation.
