A homeless man was jailed Tuesday after allegedly entering a Dunkard Township garage, stealing a bike and riding it around the house.
State police said that about 12:49 p.m., Scott Reed Armstrong, 39, walked onto the porch and knocked on the door of a residence in the 700 block of Taylortown Road. A 13-year-old boy inside the home didn’t recognize Armstrong, so he didn’t open the door, according to the criminal complaint.
Armstrong then allegedly entered the attached garage and took a bicycle and started riding it around the house, the complaint said. The boy called his grandmother, who lived next door, and told her that a shirtless man had stolen the bicycle and was riding it around the property.
The grandmother walked over and asked Armstrong what he was doing, police said. Armstrong told her that he had been walking for five days and that he took the bike and was riding it around. After the confrontation, Armstrong allegedly put the $200 mountain bike back in the garage and fled the scene.
Police found him in the area shortly after and charged him with burglary, criminal trespass and theft. Armstrong was arraigned Tuesday night by District Judge David Balint and jailed on $10,000 bond.
