The Fort Pitt Museum will host an evening with artist Robert Griffing July 13 at 5:30 p.m.

A native of Western Pennsylvania, Griffing grew up with a fascination with the 18th century and Eastern Woodland American Indians. Following a 30-year career in advertising, he turned to historical painting on a full-time basis, and created some of his most recognizable work.

The evening program will feature a conversation with Griffing about his life and art, moderated by Andy Masich, the president and CEO of the Senator John Heinz History Center, and Alan Gutchess, the director of the Fort Pitt Museum.

In addition, guests will hear from Michael Galban, Mono Lake Paiute/Washoe American Indian, who will discuss the history behind Griffing’s artwork and their collaboration on the book “The Historical Art of Robert Griffing: An Amazing Journey.” Galban works with Griffing as a visual and cultural consultant.

Following the program, Griffing and Galban will sign copies of their book. A limited number of copies will be available for purchase.

Admission is $25 for adults and $20 for students and Heinz History Center members. Online registration is available at heinzhistorycenter.org/events.
