A residential garage in East Finley Township was destroyed by fire early Friday.

Several fire departments responded just before 6 a.m. to 338 Saw Hill Road, just outside of Claysville.

Claysville fire Chief Dave Hilderbrand said his department was the first on scene. He said no one was in the garage and no one was injured while the fire was extinguished. A motorcycle, tools and other equipment stored in the garage were destroyed, he said. The owner’s name was not immediately available. The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Hilderbrand said Morris Township and West Finley firefighters responded to the call, along with Taylorstown and West Alexander firefighters, who brought tanker trucks. Ambulance and Chair Service was at the scene on standby.

“It was chilly, but not too bad,” Hilderbrand said about the weather conditions that morning.

He said that when firefighters were ready to clear the scene, there was ice on the road from the water trucks, so the state Department of Transportation put salt down.
