CALIFORNIA – A Donora man is in custody on charges he and an unidentified man fired multiple shots from handguns a week ago toward a crowd of people and into an occupied building in California Borough.

One of the suspects, Dandre Carlos Alford, 22, was arrested Thursday in connection with the Oct. 13 shooting in the 100 block of Union Street, court records show.

Police said surveillance video shows Alford, wearing a white T-shirt, parking a dark Chevrolet truck with an extended cab and getting out of the vehicle with five other men about 4:45 a.m., police stated in the affidavit.

The surveillance also showed a group of men leaving a residence in the 200 block of Second Street before the truck arrived.

Police said Alford, of 131 McKean Ave., is shown walking into the intersection with his hand in his front waistband before he began fighting with another man.

He returned to the truck, and then he and a man wearing a dark hooded jacket opened fire in the direction of a group of people who turned and ran, police said.

Court records did not indicate that anyone was injured by the gunfire.

Bullets were later removed from the exterior of 214 Second St., police stated in court records.

Police said they were able to identify Alford as the owner of the truck by using a license plate reader. He also was identified in the video through the use of a state Department of Transportation driver’s license photograph, court records allege.

Police charged Alford with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied building, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

He was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.
