Carmichaels Area High School will hold commencement at 7:15 p.m. May 31 in the high school gymnasium.

Valedictorians are Matthew Joseph Barrish, Jacob Daniel Hair and Stephen John Zacoi. As class president, Barrish will address the class of 61 seniors and call roll. The keynote speaker will be 1994 Carmichaels graduate Lt. Kelly L. Cartwright, Fleet Bandmaster, U.S. Pacific Fleet Band.

In addition to being senior class president, Barrish was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Standing Committee, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Chemistry Club. He received the Tri-CADA Scholar Athlete Award Scholarship, WPIAL Scholar Athlete Scholarship, Fairmont State Out-of-State Neighbors Scholarship and William White Athletic Scholarship.

A member of the golf, basketball and baseball teams, he was two-time Section Golf Individual Champion, 11th and 16th place finisher in the PIAA State Golf Individual Tournament, a member of the All-Section Basketball Team, All-Section Baseball Team as pitcher and outfielder, All-County Golf, Basketball, and Baseball teams, and a Herald-Standard Fall Scholar-Athlete and five-time Greene-Sports Athlete of the Week.

Barrish also was a food bank volunteer and math tutor.

The son of Andrew and Kristen Barrish, he will attend Fairmont State University, where he will major in civil engineering.

Hair was National Honor Society president, senior class treasurer and participated in Envirothon, Peer Court, Chemistry Club, SADD, the newspaper staff, debate team, and played on the baseball and basketball teams.

He was 2018 Pennsylvania State Envirothon Champion; won the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award, and was named a Herald-Standard Scholar Athlete.

The son of John and Patty Hair, he plans to attend Pennsylvania State University and major in meteorology and atmospheric science.

Zacoi was Academic League Captain, participated in Envirothon, broadcasting and morning announcements, and was a member of Peer Court, debate team, SADD, Senior Standing Committee, National Honor Society and Quarterbacks for Life. He was a state Envirothon champion and Regional Academic League Champion.

The son of John and Katherine Zacoi, he will attend Pennsylvania State University and major in computer information sciences and technologies.
