Two drivers were slightly injured Tuesday afternoon when a car collided with a Bentworth school bus carrying about six students home from class at Bentworth Elementary School.

Bentleyville police Chief Richard Young said the crash happened about 4:25 p.m. in the 200 block of Piersol Avenue. Police said the car, driven by Brian Kerns, 26, of Bigler Road, Somerset, crashed head-on into the bus driven by Brenda Nickerson of Eighty Four.

Bearcat Ambulance checked the students and both drivers, who refused treatment.

Kerns will be charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance, careless driving and driving too fast for conditions. Young said the speed limit in the area is 25 mph, and the roads were wet.

The students were picked up by their parents. Young said the bus was near the end of its run.

Both the bus and Kerns’ car had to be towed.
