An evening of beginner-friendly ballroom dancing and dance lessons will be held Saturday, April 6 in the Washington Elks Lodge to support the Penn State University’s student-run Dance Marathon in its goal to conquer childhood cancer.

The third annual Washington-Greene Counties PSU Alumni Chapter’s “We, Too, Can Dance” charity social will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Elks, 138 E. Maiden St., Washington.

All proceeds from the event will go to THON, in its support of the Four Diamonds Fund, whose goal is to end childhood cancer.

Dance instructors will donate their time to give group lessons throughout the evening in swing, cha cha and line dances. Appropriate music is played between sessions for participants to practice what they have learned.

Most couples and singles who attended the event have little to no experience, but some are more accomplished dancers who enjoy lending a hand.

“It is exciting to see the crowd loosen-up as the evening progresses, knowing we are all there having a great time for a great cause,” said Charlie Barno of Jefferson, who helps organize the event.

The evening will includ a buffet dinner, cash bar, homemade desserts, silent auction and other opportunities to support THON. The cost is $30 per person or $60 per couple, advanced sales only. The attire is business casual.

Reservations must be made by March 29. Checks can be made payable to the Penn State Club, Washington Greene Counties, and mailed to Charlie Barno, 107 Hamilton St., Jefferson, PA 15344. For further information, call Barno at 724-883-4008.
