W&J men third, women fourth in PAC swimming

The Washington & Jefferson College men sit in third place, and the women’s squad remained in fourth, following the second day of competition Friday at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Grove City College.


Westminster (481) takes a 10-point lead over Grove City (471) heading into the final day, while W&J (294), Saint Vincent (253) and Bethany (14) round out the standings. Grove City (588) leads Westminster (501) in the women’s standings. Saint Vincent is third with 397 points followed by W&J (258) and Bethany (125).


Freshman Kevin Dunigan posted the Presidents’ best finish of the evening by taking second place in the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.70.


The women’s squad’s top individual finish was recorded by Jessica Sweitzer in the 200 freestyle. She earned fourth place in 1:58.41. Sweitzer also helped the 200 medley relay (1:53.07) and 800 freestyle relay (8:12.05) teams to fourth-place finishes.


On the women’s side, Charlotte Lima claimed sixth place in the 100 backstroke (1:01.21).


Cal in eighth place

Clarissa Enslin and Kelsey Nuhfer each scored in the 50 freestyle Friday night, as California University moved into eighth place at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.


West Chester maintained its lead in the team standings, posting 334 points through three sessions. Clarion was second with 171.5, while IUP is third at 168. The Vulcans moved up two spots to eighth place with 80.5 points.


Enslin placed eighth in the finals of the 50 freestyle with a time 24.30 seconds. Nuhfer scored in the 50 freestyle for the second-straight year, placing 14th overall in the finals with a time of 24.42 seconds.


The 200 freestyle relay of Enslin, Caitlyn Sirkoch, Alyssa Novotny and Enslin reached the NCAA Championships ‘B’ mark by finishing fifth in the event with a time of 1:36.43.


Cal also scored in the 400 medley relay, as Megan Schuh, Brittany Reamer, Bruna Carvalho and Enslin placed ninth overall with a time of 3:57.50.
