Prosecutors said Monday they will amend the criminal complaint against a Donora man to charge him with attempted homicide in connection with a stabbing last month at his residence.

Assistant Washington County District Attorney Chad Schneider said a felony aggravated assault charge also will be added to the complaint against James R. Tyree Sr., 61, who is in custody on accusations he stabbed Lamont Dixon of Donora in the heart Sept. 8.

Dixon suffered critical injuries and remained last week in a Pittsburgh hospital with complications from having undergone open-heart surgery after being stabbed at 938 McKean Ave., said his wife, Natasha.

The stabbing took place during an argument that broke out after the Dixons complained about Tyree not wearing clothes in the presence of their child. Dixon was stabbed with an unknown type of sharp object about 7:40 p.m. as he was walking down a flight of stairs, police stated in the affidavit.

Tyree remains in the Washington County jail on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment filed by Donora police. He is jailed on $25,000 bond set Sept. 20 by District Judge Mark Wilson.

The criminal complaint against Tyree will be amended to reflect the new charges when he appears Thursday for his preliminary hearing before Wilson.

Schneider said the prosecution will need to subpeona Dixon’s medical records if he is still hospitalized that day.
